MISSION: RE/MAX, the Chicago real estate leader, is national sponsor of the Komen Race for the CureŽ series. The Komen Race for the CureŽ is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. Proceeds from the Komen Race for the CureŽ Series help fund important breast cancer research as well as breast health initiatives on a local level. Race for the CureŽ are organized and conducted by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
HISTORY: The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the Komen Foundation is an international organization with a network of 75,000 volunteers working through local Affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the CureŽ to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. The Komen Foundation is a global leader in the fight against breast cancer and fulfills its mission through support of innovative breast cancer research grants, meritorious awards, educational and scientific conferences and community-based outreach programs around the world.

SUPPORT:

Seventy-five percent of the proceeds from Race for the CureŽ remains in the Chicago real estate market where the Race is held, helping to support breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for the medically underserved. A minimum of 25 percent of Race proceeds helps fund breast cancer research and project grants awarded through Komen Foundation Headquarters. During Komen Race for the CureŽ events, RE/MAX honors breast cancer survivors by providing the signature pink t-shirts and caps for survivors to wear. Race participants also receive "In Memory of" or "In Celebration of" back signs to honor a friend or loved one. In addition, RE/MAX teams participate in and volunteer at community Komen Race events.
